Visualize yourself in Turkey, a country bridges the continents of Europe and Asia. Istanbul has been inhabited as early as 5500 BC. In the 7th Century BC, Greek colonist Byzas named the city Byzantium after himself. In 330, the Roman emperor Constantine declared the city as the capital of the entire Roman Empire and renamed it Constantinople which further became the capital of the Byzantine Empire in the 400s. Constantinople was conquered by the Turks in 1453, then became the capital of the Ottoman Empire and its name changed to Istanbul. Nowadays, with a population of 17 million, the megacity Istanbul is the most crowded city of Turkey established in 1923 and the heart of economic and cultural life of the country.

Boğaziçi University opened its doors to students as a first American College, Robert College, outside the boundaries of the USA in 1863. The campus was passed on to the Turkish government, government in 1971. The campus was built at the stone quarry area that had been used by Fatih Sultan Mehmet when he built his mighty fortress, Rumelihisari, on the European shore of the Bosphorus in 1453, and it has a panoramic view of the Bosphorous strait.

The 47th EUCEN Conference will take place at Albert Long Hall, South Campus, Bogazici University in İstanbul.
The Boğaziçi University Cultural Center (Albert Long Hall, 1890) houses the Kriton Curi and John Freely lecture rooms and an assembly hall with a seating capacity of 479, used for conferences, concerts, and public meetings.
